2026 OK Dinghy World Championship

Published Fri 12 Jun 2026

More than 200 boats from 14 nations lined up at Skovshoved Harbour, Denmark, for the 2026 OK Dinghy World Championship (5–12 June), hosted by the Royal Danish Yacht Club and Hellerup Sejlklub — one of the largest OK Dinghy Worlds on record. Amongst the New Zealand contingent, the daily “Tiki” trophy — awarded to the first Kiwi across the line in each day's final race — was hotly contested all week.

Day 1 (Monday 8 June) — Gordon Sims

Gordon Sims claimed the Tiki in style, picking up the win in the very first race of the Championship. Second around the top mark, he worked his way into the lead and held on for the win — proof that all those light, shifty sessions back at WBC had paid off.

Day 2 (Tuesday 9 June) — Sean Cleary

Only one race was completed on day two after thunderstorms rolled in and cut racing short. Sean Cleary took the day's Tiki with a 9th place finish, sporting full UV protection to see off the Danish summer sun.

A breezier day (Wednesday 10 June) — Mark Perrow

Conditions picked up for one of the windier days of the regatta, and Mark Perrow was right in the mix — an 8th in the Tiki race backing up a solid 12th overall on the day. A well-earned beer followed, with racing still to come.

Final day (Friday 12 June) — Sean Cleary

Sean Cleary claimed his second Tiki of the week on the final day, finishing 10th in race seven — the last race of the Championship — sailed in what were arguably the best conditions of the week: 12–18 knots with some solid waves. His height gives him an edge on hiking leverage, though his core strength work using the front-pack method looks to be paying dividends too.
